More Than Just "Dog Tolerant"

We know the struggle. Finding dog friendly cottages in North East England often means compromising on luxury or dealing with strict rules.

At Auckland Palace Stays, we don’t just tolerate dogs; we welcome them.

Whether you are exploring the rugged beauty of Weardale or taking a morning stroll through the historic Bishop Auckland Deer Park, our cottages offer the perfect base for you and your four-legged companions.

Forget the kennel. Bring them with you to experience the sights, smells, and sounds of the North East.

A Dog Walker's Paradise

Why do dog owners choose us over other cottages in Durham? It’s the location.

  • The Deer Park: You have 150 acres of ancient parkland literally on your doorstep. Perfect for that first-thing-in-the-morning run without needing to get in the car.
  • The Walled Garden: Guests enjoy exclusive evening access to the beautiful Walled Garden – a sensory delight for humans and hounds alike.
  • The Brandon-Bishop Auckland Railway Path: Miles of traffic-free walking starting just moments away.

Choose Their Favourite Spot

Most of our heritage properties are happy to host well-behaved dogs.

  • For the Garden Lovers: Palace Garden Cottage offers easy access to outdoor space, perfect for quick breaks.
  • For the Whole Pack: The Clarence (Sleeps 8) has ample space for larger families and up to two dogs to stretch out.
  • For a Cosy Retreat: Churchill Cottage is the ideal size for a couple and a canine companion.

How many dogs can we bring?

We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs per cottage.

Is there an extra charge?

We charge a small fee of £25 per dog for the entire stay. This covers the extra cleaning to ensure the cottage is spotless for the next guests.

Are dogs allowed in the attractions?

Dogs are welcome in the Deer Park and the grounds. While they cannot enter the Palace or Galleries (except assistance dogs), the surrounding area is incredibly pet-friendly.

Ready for a Wagging Tail? Treat them to a holiday they will actually enjoy.
